We work together to continually develop and implement sustainable solutions. Through Green Thread, our environmental sustainability platform, we bring innovative and efficient solutions to life. We are passionately focused on reducing the environmental impact within our operations.
Here are just a few ways we work to make our campus more environmentally conscious:
Local Purchasing
Did you know that CCUFoodCrew sources food from many local farmers, growers, and distributers? Our fried chicken on Fried Chicken Friday, is sourced from a poultry farm in Dillon, South Carolina. Our pasta and pizza sauce are from Seaside Grown in St. Helena, South Carolina.
We also offer a local's products wall in our P.O.D. Markets! Where students can use dining dollars to purchase locally sourced and grown products!
Brand new to campus is our Babylon Hydroponics system here at Hicks Dining Hall. We can now grow our very own leafy greens and microgreens such as romaine lettuce, iceberg lettuce, and basil to name a few. See the complete list of what we can grow below.

Recycling
CCUFoodCrew partners with Sustain Coastal to recycle cardboard, aluminum, content paper, napkins, hand towels, and glass from all locations across campus. We are commited to minimizing our environmental footprint. Look for signs in our locations for more informations on where to put your recyclables.
We also offer Proud Source water bottles in our P.O.D. Markets and concessions along with Ball aluminum cups at our concessions stands at all sporting events!
Composting
Here at CCUFoodCrew we compost all food waste, both post and pre-consumer, in Hicks, Chauncey's Choice, and UP Dining Hall. After the food waste is turned into soil, Sustain Coastal partners with local companies to bring the soil back onto campus as the soil in the flower beds across campus. We have composted 427 tons of food waste since 2015!
Reusables
CCUFoodCrew has partnered with Planet Ozzi for a new reusable to-go container program on campus. Students can purchase a reusable to-go container and reusable utensils at all of our all-you-care-to-eat locations; Hicks Dining Hall, Chauncey's Choice, and UP Dining Hall.
Did you know that Starbucks you can bring your own reusable cup and receive a discount? We also sell reusable CCUFoodCrew cups!
Fryer Oil Recycling
CCUFoodCrew recycles all of our fryer oil on campus through our partnership with Quest!
Hydration Systems
Look for the hydration systems across campus to fill up your reusable water bottle! Bring in your own reusable water bottle to Hicks Dining Hall, Chauncey's Choice, and UP Dining Hall to fill up before you leave!
Food Donations
Here at CCUFoodCrew we are committed to donating our excess food to places like the CINO Pantry right here on campus! All students, faculty, and staff have access with an active CINO card. The CINO Pantry is located on the second floor of the Lib Jackson Student Union in room A-215.
CCUFoodCrew at the end of the semester, will also host an emergency meal swipe drive for students to donate up to 5 meal swipes to the fund. Students who are facing food insecurities on campus can request the use of these meal swipes!
